this is all shit!

You know what? Screw this. Raging Fangirl is dead.

If you understood what I was trying to say, pretend you don’t.

But if they read the comments then wouldn’t they learn from them? If nobody’s learning then what’s the point in posting anything at all?

Some people aren’t learning shit, because they refuse to.

But education is a spectator…

I already acknowledged this and I won’t pick out any single race by the history I know of and I won’t dress as anyone of a single race in an attempt to associate myself with other cultures despite my mixed heritage. I am simply saying “we get the point, now give everyone a handshake and let’s go on with our lives while using this knowledge”

You aren’t everyone and you don’t have the authority to speak for everyone.

If you’re done with this lesson, scroll away. You’re done.

Other people aren’t done.

Other people haven’t even started.

Not everyone can be reached from this website. But new comments won’t make the past ones dissapear. The first several comments are still circling around the website and those are the ones that have the most knowledge for the general public.

And I’m just trying to be auspitice here… I don’t want you to be upset, I value your views and I care about your emotions but I don’t think you need to be so upset about all this… you’re saying that things need to change but being angry and arguing doesn’t change anything. I’m not saying I understand but I want you to be happy and you deserve to find peace in our world…

OH. FOR. FUCK’S. SAKE.

You have just used a homestuck term.

To describe that you’re trying, VERY POORLY, to mediate a situation where NO ONE ASKED YOU.

I will be happy when people stop doing racist shit.

And defending racist shit.

And I’m not going to shut up about it until that happens, because shutting up about it doesn’t facilitate it happening.

Let’s go back in time. Let’s go back to my kindergarten class where kids are doing that stupid hand-over-mouth ‘woo woo’ war cry shit at me. Let’s go back to elementary school, watching Peter Pan at the end of the year and getting reprimanded when I walk out of the room to sit in the hall during the ‘What makes the red man red’ song because I can’t fucking explain to the teacher why it makes me want to cry. Let’s go back to my girlscout troop, where one of the leaders is quoting that movie and saying ‘SQUAW GETTUM FIREWOOD!’ and getting huffy and offended when called out on it by my mother. Let’s go back to my middle school chorus that’s singing Colors of the Wind and listen to all the resultant comments from my classmates AND TEACHERS. Let’s go back to when I was fourteen years old and a car full of college-aged white guys drove by shouting ‘FUCK YEAH, POCAHOTNESS’ and making sexual gestures at me. Let’s go back to last year, when a coworker asked me why I was asking for a personal day and checked ‘Religious Observance’ when she knows I’m not a Christian- I told her it was for a powwow, and she wanted to come. I told her it wasn’t open to the public and she said ‘Then why even have one.’

Then why even have one?

THEN WHY EVEN HAVE ONE?

When people dress like this, they perpetuate stereotypes about native people, AND THEY UPHOLD AND COSIGN ALL THAT SHIT.

And then you have the fucking nerve to tell me that I just shouldn’t let it bother me. That I shouldn’t try to educate the people who are hurting me about my pain. That I shouldn’t try to take actions that will make it stop and prevent future generation from having the same painful experiences. That I should just get off the internet.

FUCK. YOU.

You do not give a dull fuck about me being happy or having peace, you just want me to stop talking about it.

Let me be very clear about this: I don’t want you to be happy. I want you to feel uncomfortable. I want you to feel upset. I want you to feel sad and angry. Because then maybe you will also attempt to change the shitty things that are happening, and cease to defend the people who are doing and perpetuating them.

I don’t care how you feel.

I care about what you do and say.

I used a Homestuck term in an attention to diffuse the anger into humor and it didn’t work. I apologize for that. I’m not saying it shouldn’t bother you, I’m saying that it might make you feel better if you forgave them… might… I don’t really know you or your psychological history.

You are really, really, REALLY…

I’m not trying to make this about me, I was just giving you more information since your assumption was incorrect. I hope i dont upset you when i say this, but perhaps you’re accidentally making this about you when it’s about a whole culture?

You do realize that I am attempting to address the whole culture, one tiny example at a time, right?

But education is a spectator sport, which is why it’s best done in a public forum.

So you’re making am example of the person who was wrong instead of giving that person a chance to grow and learn from their mistake?

I’m not trying to, I really am sorry… but maybe it’s possible that everyone’s taking this a tiny bit too seriously?

Have you considered that maybe the best role for you to take in this situation is to sit and listen attentively, rather than add your own opinion? I mean I know that you’ve probably been told your whole life that everyone has an oipinion and everyone’s opinion is valid and important, but let me clue you in on something: That’s not actually true.
Sometimes, you’re wrong.
And sometimes, it doesn’t really matter what you think about something.
No, I am not taking too seriously the fact that someone in the DIY tag is posting tutorials on how to make props to help kids engage in racist play. That shit needs addressing.

I doubt the OP meant any harm from it…

No fucks given.
If someone accidentally runs over my foot with their car, my foot is not less broken because ‘they didn’t mean it’ nor will it be magically healed in the event that they say ‘I didn’t know!’.
Racism isn’t a yes/no switch. It’s not a thing you ARE. It’s not about you being a racist person.
It’s about you having done a racist thing.
You can do so in the best intentions, or in total ignorance.
Racism is not in your intent.
Your intent is immaterial in how racist your actions are.
This isn’t about you BEING a racist. It’s about you DOING A THING that is racist.
Your intent doesn’t change it. Your ignorance of its meaning doesn’t change it. It’s got nothing to do with you as a person and everything to do with the meaning of your action in the context of sociocultural history.

this website usually embraces other people’s thoughts, opinions, and emotions, but every now and then it seems like people try to make others feel bad when they’re wrong.

Hold the fucking phone.
Sit down, because I’m going to lay some serious life-changing advice on you.
When someone tells you that you’ve done something wrong, it’s generally not because they’re trying to make you feel bad. It’s because they want you to STOP and NOT DO THAT AGAIN/ANYMORE. Your feelings are not the center of the conversation.
I don’t give a dull fuck about how you FEEL about being told that you’re wrong.
I care about what you do and say and how it impacts the world.

Everyone makes mistakes, right?

Yes. And until they’re corrected, they’re gonna keep making the same ones.
I am correcting people who are mistaken.

I hope this doesn’t seem like I’m saying it’s okay, because it’s not. I just think that maybe they already learned the truth…

They demonstrably have not.

But if they read the comments then wouldn’t they learn from them? If nobody’s learning then what’s the point in posting anything at all?

Perhaps this would be better if instead of interracial the oc put historical? Would that be insensitive?

Nothing. Would. Make. That. Outfit. And. Playhouse. OK.
NOTHING.
Because it is not based in any real history or culture; it’s based entirely on Hollywood caricatures of ‘Indians’ that have no basis in reality and serve only to erase and replace the real experiences of real people.

Okay, I’m sorry… I’m going to go back to hiding and not post my thoughts online anymore… I’m really sorry… I’m a terrible person…

This, that you’re doing right now?
This is white tears.
Because you asked a question that displays
A: Profound lack of understanding of the problem and
B: Racism, that you have learned from the culture you were raised in.
You received a clear, concise answer with an explanation.
And you had a large self-effacing emotional response to it, that your followers will probably lavish praise and sympathy upon you for.

When you ask a question, and get an answer you don’t like, it is not appropriate to try to focus the situation back to yourself and how bad you feel about the question that you asked.

Oh my God, I’m probably going to make a lot of people angry with that last post… I’m really sorry, I should know better than to state my opinion. I’m a terrible person and I’m going to hell…

I’m probably going to get angry mail for saying this but a lot of the time when a lot of people leave angry comments on a post it seems like the original poster didn’t mean any harm… this community comes together for the exchange of thoughts and opinions but when there’s a disagreement it seems like people gang up on others to make them feel bad…
